A highly chemo- and enantioselective hydrogenation of beta-diketones was achieved by using [Ru(benzene)(S)-SunPhosCl]Cl for consistency in THF. The neighboring heteroatoms played important roles in guaranteeing the reactivity and controlling the chemoselectivity.
